Us Weekly reported recently that New York Rangers forward Brad Richards has been dumped by girlfriend Olivia Munn.
She ended it with him. She had to. It’s not really complicated. She just realized she liked him as a friend and nothing more.
Ouch! Bad news for Richards. And Rangers fans. Not so much for the rest of the teams in the National Hockey League.
The pair were first spotted together November 10, 2011 having dinner at Spasso in the West Village, according to the New York Post. She then attended the Rangers game at Madison Square Garden the next day.
According to entertainment blog Just Jared the pair actually started dating around October 31st. From then on, the Rangers became one of the very best teams in the NHL.
A Madison Square Garden representative was overheard by Just Jared as saying that Munn had become “Rangers’ good luck charm”.
He wasn’t wrong. Before the 2004 Playoff MVP and Stanley Cup winner and the 31-year-old actress started dating, the Rangers had a 3-3-3 record. Over the span of their relationship, the Blueshirts went on a crazy 24-6-1 run. Paced out over an entire 82-game schedule, that would amount to 129 points. That would be the best total in NHL history!
No wonder Rangers fans loved her. The Post reported about their affection of Munn after a Rangers’ win over the hated cross-town rivals the Islanders on December 26th.
Fans in the crowd kept high-fiving her after the win, and thanking her.
I’m not sure they’ll be doing that any time soon.
Since the breakup was announced on January 10th, the Rangers have compiled a record of… 2-2. Looks like the Rangers are back on track: playing .500 hockey.
Nice ride while it lasted for the Rangers and their fans. Oh, and Richards, too, we assume.
